Peyton's mum wanted me to create a small wall 'mural' full of references to her own happy childhood memories, and to some of the magical and mythical creatures that we find in childhood tales and dreams.. fairy godmothers and tooth fairies, Easter bunnies and yellow brick roads. A place with a pot of gold and pixie dust and a tree big enough in the foreground to attach a specially purchased fairy door. Her original imaginings of this work saw it being painted as a mural directly onto the wall but she wasn't overly keen to have it as a permanent work on the wall that would have to be painted over in time and lost. I ended up painting this on a canvas sheet, which I glued (with a strong adhesive spray) on to foam board, which is light and could be attached flush against the wall easily in a safe way using non permanent adhesive tabs. The intent for the fairy tree door was for Peyton to be able to open it and see 'inside' her special tree house. If there had been any special fairy deliveries overnight, gold dust could be found sprinkled around the entrance to the door... who had been visiting?
