BEGINNINGS...

Posted by Bonnie Warner Blackburn on

I have done a series of circle works with 'beginnings' as a theme.. starting with this large one that incorporates intertwining and overlapping koru, celtic and circular shapes with some traditional earthy indigenous colours. I am drawn to and inspired by (like many other people) the art and culture of indigenous people, including Maori and Native Canadian (my homeland); Lakota and Cherokee... and I've been looking at the significance of the circle/ hoop shape in these cultures. This main large work ('Beginnings') had a home in mind as I was painting it- even the particular space, lighting and the decor of the room it was going to inhabit. However it spawned a few smaller pieces.. 'Beginnings 2', 'Beginnings 3', 'Pointed beginnings' and 'circle, point, turn' that have yet to find their places in the world. x
