#sideproject : )

Stemming from my exploration of the hoop theme... the hoop dance, cycles, seasons, tension, struggle, beauty, nature.. such a simple but powerful symbol in so many cultures. Up until now I have mainly drawn and painted more literal personal interpretations.. figures and imagery that show specific cultural and ancestral connotations. The power of the seasons of our lives, past, present, future- and have been fascinated by the Native American Hoop dance and all that the hoop/s represent in that art form.

In art that I've made more specifically for children I've enjoyed creating playful pieces, where the circle/hoop represents hugs..  'hugs n kisses' and all the feelgood accompanying emotions of love and security. I like the simple contrast between the ⚪ and the X

Here I am playing and exploring more with looser expression, instinctive mark making, layering, texture and colour. I'm visually journeying in a more abstract way my own seasons, my learnings, my struggles, my faith.

From here I think I am going to go bigger.
